5 Ayurvedic Resolutions for the New Year

By Rippan Sandhu

Happy New Year! It’s the resolution season and to help you keep your focus on being the best happy, healthy you that you can be we’ve put together 5 very simple ayurvedic resolutions to help you achieve your wellbeing goals.

Remember too, the reason why resolutions often aren’t achieved is because they don’t stay top of mind and often they are too hard to maintain. So if you slip up or miss a few days (or weeks!) go easy on yourself. We are all works in progress and being kind starts at home so try to keep promises realistic, small steps with big rewards!

Here’s to a fabulous 2018, for all of us!

1. Move More
2. Read Everything
3. Make time for your passions
4. Connect with nature
5. Be kinder to yourself

Take a minute to put these onto a postie or piece of paper and put it on your fridge, your phone, your desktop – anywhere to help them stay top of mind.

Take another minute to think about what your rewards would be. We’d suggest making a luxury pamper session a reward at the end of the month (because we know how good they are for you!), but in the same place you post the resolutions, post the rewards you’ll treat yourself with. It could be something simple like taking time off to watch a movie on Netflix one evening, or go big and reward yourself with something on your bucket list. You deserve it!

As a bonus challenge, here’s the Dinacharya daily self-care routine we ran in November. Try this, you’ll be amazed at the difference in yourself!

Dinacharya (Daily self-care routine)

A daily routine is absolutely necessary to bring radical change in body, mind, and consciousness. Routine helps to establish balance in one's constitution. It also regularizes a person's biological clock, aids digestion, absorption and assimilation, and generates self-esteem, discipline, peace, happiness, and longevity. Not to mention being one of the best ways we know to combat stress!

1. Digital Unplug (the night before)
2. Wake up time
3. Brush your teeth
4. Scrape your tongue
5. Gargling
6. Clean your face, mouth and eyes
7. Drink lemon, honey and ginger warm water
8. Nasal drops (Nasya)
9. Evacuation
10. 15 minutes of exercise
11. Meditation, gratitude or intention
12. Self-massage
13. Shower
14. Use perfume
15. Leisurely, nourishing breakfast

The ancient science of Ayurveda which has given us richness of wellness in such a perfect way that if we follow the 5,000-year-old philosophy we can achieve this state without much effort.

As always, we hope to see you here at the Spa. We’ll compliment the work you’re doing with your 2018 resolutions by incorporating regular massage as part of your ongoing self-care routine.
