7 Ayurda Autumn Skin Care Tips

Tuesday, April 11, 2017

Ayurveda considers a seasonal routine an important and vital part of good health, year-round. Balancing yourself with nature and its changes is the key to good skin care, that is where at Ayurda we feel passionate about you feeling and looking your very best! Here are 7 of our favourite skin care tips to help you maintain that glow throughout Autumn:

TIP 1: Watching for signs of change

Your skin is changing continuously and will tell you exactly what it needs and when, no matter the season! Tightness, dryness, increased breakouts and sensitivity are all signs that your current skincare routine isn’t working for you. Pay attention to what your skin is telling you. Ayurda work with Mother Nature, never against her, with our natural and organic range.

TIP 2: Adapt your cleansing routine to the weather

Why should you change your skin care routine to fit the weather? Cleansers that may works wonders for you during summer may dry your skin during autumn! Use our cream based Hingot cleanser twice daily to deep cleanse the toxins and effects of the day, while hydrating and nourishing your skin.

TIP 3: Boost Hydration

Toners are often an overlooked step in a skin-care regimen. If you aren’t already using one, autumn is the perfect time to start. At Ayurda, we call our toners ‘food for the skin’ giving your skin the hydration it so desperately needs during these dry months. They are easy to use too – just cleanse your skin and spray Ayurda’s Rose and Basil Toner for dry skin and Blackberry Astringent for sensitive or congested skin. Take our Skin Quiz to determine which of our two toners is best suited for you.

TIP 4: Switch to a More Hydrating Moisturizer

Autumn generally tends to dry out your skin so this is the perfect time for you to put aside your light summer moisturiser and go for something more nourishing. Our Nourishing Cream is packed with the goodness of Sandalwood Oil, Olive Oil and Cocoa Butter, a moisturiser that can be used for both your day and night regime!

TIP 5: Exfoliate! Exfoliate! Exfoliate!

This is a must-do skin care regime! No amount of great skin care products will work unless and until you exfoliate that dead skin layer from your skin! Make a quick homemade scrub or try our Invigorating Scrub or Gel Scrub at least once a week for best results. Exfoliation will enable deeper penetration of your natural skin care products. Hence giving you the best value for your money!

Tip 6 Self Massage

A delightful way to awaken feeling revitalized and nourished. Self- massage is known as Abhyanga in Ayurveda (pronounced Abhy-ang- ga ), a warm oil self-massage which deeply nourishes the body and calms the mind. It relieves dry skin and will leave you feeling grounded. Ideally it should be done every day before shower but even if you can make this a part of your life at least 3-4 times a week. Done regularly, it boosts immunity and improves circulation. I recommend using warm organic Sesame oil, it only takes a few minutes and the feel-good benefit lasts all day.

Tip 7 Eat warm nourishing food

The most important general principle for diet during Autumn or Vata season is to have warm, cooked foods. With the drop in temperature or bodies naturally crave more cooked foods. An easy way is to add some herbs such as turmeric, cumin, black pepper, cinnamon, cardamom and ginger to your spice rack. This is also a good time of the year to add herbs and spices to your food. Enjoy the smell of cooking while sipping some Vata tea!

Like your garden and your wardrobe, your skin care is seasonal. Follow the tips above for healthy, glowing skin and a happier, more energised you … feel good!
